My Writing

The Big Three

In this section of my portfolio I intend to show the most important pieces of writing that I have composed in this class in chronological order.  It includes the pieces themselves and also a brief description as to why I picked these three items.  Please note that the small squares are hyperlinks.  Enjoy.

Literacy Narrative

My personal literacy narrative was a piece of writing in which I spent a great deal of time on.  This was the first big writing for my class so I spent a lot of time attempting my hardest to make it the best I could.  Rather by simply writing about myself I applied the various concepts I had learned before this paper.  In this piece I discuss how drawing has become one of my strong literacies.  It illustrates my life as a drawing enthusiast and how this aspect, that many consider silly, became an enormous part of my life.  I also picked this piece since it displays my first big step in becoming the writer I am today.  In this assignment I started to develop my own style of writing.  This style of writing was induced by the many readings discussed in my [reflective letter].  Moreover, I found that this writing became very influential to finding myself as an individual and also as a writer.  Although I had gone through many steps and revisions to finalize this piece I am very satisfied with its results.  I hope to show how my fear of writing was overcome through my literacy narrative.  Also how my understanding of literacy has changed.

Rhetorical Analysis

The best and perhaps the assignment that I became the most fond of was my rhetorical analysis.  This assignment had two parts to it.  The first part to this assignment was writing the paper and the second was turning it into a digital essay, which you can find under the digital essay tab of my portfolio or the link provided.  The purpose of this assignment was to break down anything we chose, through the means of rhetoric devices.  As a class we had practiced doing this several times.  However, now that we had to do it individually we got to choose what we wanted to analyze.  I took this as an opportunity to analyze and break down a music video from my favorite band.  I was fascinated by how much I was actually able to pull from it.  This piece opened my eyes to how the knowledge in rhetoric and its devices are crucial to understanding anything we see in our every day lives.  I became very intrigued by the various aspects I found through the music video and I could say that I even became obsessed with it.  This assignment was simply the one that I poured my heart and soul into the most.  I was shocked at how much I enjoyed writing this and quickly forgot about word count.

Inquiry

The final strong piece that I will include is my inquiry, also accessible on the top tabs of the portfolio.  I felt it my responsibility to include this piece as it became a huge influencing factor to how I will continue to be a writer in the future.  This assignment was made to be an exploratory research.  Ms. Andrews being the awesome professor that she has always been, let us chose what we wanted to inquire to.  I chose to inquire to and further explore the trend of going green and if we are doing enough to achieve it.  Since I am a somewhat of a tree hugger, I became very involved into wanting to truly investigate this concept.  However, the main purpose of this assignment wasn’t to develop a research paper bur rather to make us see a different form of research that we had always been used to.  I myself though of research as nothing but finding out information on the topic.  However, I found a better means of research by “exploring” it and most importantly extending the conversation.  This assignment is one in which I will continue to reflect on every time I will write a research paper throughout my college career and professional career if need be.
